Make your kid's childhood memorable...


Just i was comparing my childhood days with that of my daughters.. Childhood of our generation to that of present day kids.

1. Gadgets: TV, computer games, tablets, smart phone, gaming consoles: They are all bad... They make kids obese, addicted, drain their energy, affects their social behavior and so on.... Some people argue that certain strategic games are good and they improve kid's logical thinking. True, when used judiciously. Can parents watchdog always successfully? Most of the the pediatrics are recommending to limit kid's screen time to maximum of an hour per day. Well, they are not that bad, if exposed within the prescribed time.
Alternatively, how about allowing the kids to go out and play any ball game? We all know playing outside makes the kids stronger and ensures that they get good amount of fresh air. Have we ever thought about the amount of calculation the brain does and co-ordination done between the body-eyes-hands to simply catch a ball in the air. Outdoor games stimulate the brain and supply the brain with the needed oxygen too. What a demand-supply mechanism ! Is n't it awesome?

2. Cola-Pizzas-French fries etc: These foods are bad and the worst part is that they are addictive. Indian cuisine is one of the best in the world, from both taste and healthiness stand point. Most of the ingredients used in South Indian cooking have many medical values and we use them a lot even to make a simple side dish or a curry. 

3. Toys: More the toys a kid has got, more likely he/she is likely to be left boredom. Now-a-days, kids does not know how to make a boat with a paper, how to make his own cricket bat with a piece of wood or making a ball with bunch of rubber bands. Everything is made available for them off-the-shelf. They don't have to do anything, they obviously feel bored. Give them an opportunity to make their own toys; that will give them a feeling of achievement and a lots of happiness of fulfillment. 

4. Dance/Music/Keyboard/karate/swimming and what? Engage your kid in one or two activities after seeing their interest. If they don't enjoy doing any of these things, there is nothing they are going to learn from those classes too. If they want to play only outdoors, let them play outdoors, let them get their hands dirty, let them explore the mud and the insects inside the wood. We all enjoyed our childhood, lets our kids also enjoy them. We can encourage them to learn few things; but we can't force them into anything.
